Video Description
Half-way through his first-ever concert in Rio de Janeiro, Elton and the band kick it into hyperdrive with the title track of, and second single from, the album they had just spent the last seven months touring: “Made In England”. Bernie Taupin’s autobiographical lyrics about growing up in the UK with American rock’n’roll reference two of Elton’s musical idols: Little Richard (by name and as the “Sweet Georgia Peach”) and Elvis Presley (the “boy from Tupelo”).
On any stage, solo or with his band, Elton never fails to deliver the goods when it comes to this 1975 US No. 1 hit – his 4th in 4 years. April 26, 1989 was no exception, and by the end of the song it is clear that the Elton and the audience are having the time of their lives as they, knowingly or not, pay tribute to the World TeamTennis team The Philadelphia Freedoms, and its founder Billy Jean King, from 4,000 miles away.
