‘Knowing One Another’ is the piece I chose to open the ‘Beyond the Stars’ concert at the Dubai EXPO. Composed and arranged for the musicians I had assembled for the performance, the music evokes the anticipation of travellers setting out on a journey full of the promise of discovery. From Tayyar Bayramov’s mesmerising mugham solo to the compelling rhythms and melodies performed brilliantly on traditional instruments, my aim was to paint a sound portrait of the ways we come to know one another through our music.
