Different forms of Verbs
We have the following Verb Forms in English:-
Simple present Or the first form of the verb.
It is the basic or root form of the verb in which's' or 'es' is added if the subject is third person singular.
Examples:
Laugh Laughs
Love Loves
Go Goes
I laugh loudly. He laughs loudly.
I love roses. She loves roses.
Simple past or the second form of the verb
This form of the verb remains unchanged, irrespective of the person or number of the subject.
This means subject may be 1st person (i/we), 2nd person (you), 3rd person (he/she/they).
Examples:
I went. We went.
You went. You went. (Plural)
He/she went. They went.
Participle forms of the verb:-
We have two participle forms of the verbs in English.
1. Present participle.
2. Past participle.
Present participle form:-
It is used in all the continuous forms of tenses.
This form of verb is always used along with the helping verbs like: is, am and are, in case of present continuous tense.
With was, were, in case of past continuous and with will be, shall be, in case of future continuous.

Examples:
Present continuous Past continuous Future continuous
I am missing you I was missing you I will/shall be missing you
You are missing me you were missing me you will be missing me
He/she is missing you he/she was missing you he/she will be missing you
We are missing you we were missing you we will/shall be missing you
They are missing you they were missing you they will be missing you
Present participle form is also used as verbal noun or gerund.
In such case, Present participle form of verb does not function as a verb but as a noun.
It is used as a subject or object in a sentence.
Look at the examples below:-
1. Smoking is a bad habit.
2. I am trying to quit smoking.
Please note: - Smoking in the first sentence is a subject. The verb here is (is), It is the main verb in the sentence.
In the second sentence:-
Smoking is the object. "trying to quit is the verb here".
Past participle form or the third form of the verb.
This form is used in sentences belonging to perfect forms of present, past and future tenses.
Examples:
Present perfect tense:
I have finished my work.
You have finished your work.
He/she has finished his/her work.
We have finished our work.
They have finished their work.
Past perfect tense
I had finished my work.
You had finished your work.
He/she had finished his/her work.
We had finished our work.
They had finished their work.
Future perfect tense:
I will/shall have finished my work.
You will have finished your work.
He/she will have finished his/her work.
We will/shall have finished our work.
They will have finished their work.
Here is a list of a few verbs in all their forms:

Know /knows knew knowing known
